I want that! The Sin of Envy painting
Hey, what was that? I want it!
The second painting of the Seven Deadly Sins (of Space) series is «The Sin of Envy».
I started painting this one about the same time as The Sin of Wrath one and I wasn´t sure yet about its meaning. But I had a very clear idea in my mind about an astronaut being hit by a beam of light.
When the painting was nearly over I came to realize that he was actually struck by an idea, an obsession, a desire. His hand is trying to capture it and, of course, he is too slow to be able to reach it.
Well, in some way that´s what envy means, isn´t it?
The color of the beam was initially blue and while it looked good I remember the expression “to be green with envy”. Damn it! I had to paint it over and change it.
Luckily blue and green are in the same general gamut and it was easy to paint over. If the beam were read I would have some trouble, that´s for sure!
